Questions about the shops

Will a shop have the bar I'm looking for?

Not always. Chof records which makers a shop carries, not which of their bars it has in stock. A shop may have only a few bars from a maker it carries, and seasonal bars sell out, so ask the shop before you travel for a particular one.

How does Chof know what a shop carries, and how current is it?

Chof reads the brand list on the shop's own website, or the pages where makers list the shops that sell their chocolate, and records each maker it finds there. Each shop's page on Chof shows the month Chof checked its brand list, or the earliest month when parts were checked at different times. A maker's own shop is checked against the maker's website, or with the maker.

What's the difference between a chocolate shop, a maker's shop and a brand store?

A chocolate shop sells bars from many makers. A maker's shop is run by a chocolate maker and sells that maker's own bars. A brand store is run by a large chocolate brand, such as Lindt or Cadbury, or by a company that sells chocolate made for it under its own name.

How does a shop get listed or corrected?

A shop appears once it carries at least one maker on Chof. A shop owner can send the makers they carry, or a correction to an address or a list, through the form at chof.nl/for-shops, and Chof checks it against the shop's website before it goes live.

Is Chof paid to list shops?

No shop pays Chof to be listed or to be placed higher. Online shops that ship internationally come first, grouped by where they are, then by country and name. Then every shop is listed under its country, by type, then by city and name. Some links to online shops on bar and maker pages are affiliate links, which earn Chof a commission when you buy. Each one says so where it appears, and none of them changes this list or its order.
