Chocolate has changed faster than the way people choose it. Growers ferment and dry their beans with care, and craft makers buy from them and roast in small batches, so a bar can be as particular as a wine or a specialty coffee. Most people still pick one by the wrapper, the cocoa percentage, and a brand they know.

At tastings and workshops Felipe kept meeting people who want better chocolate and don't feel sure reading what's in front of them. He built Chof so you can scan a bar, see what's in it and who made it, and find bars and makers like it. Why Felipe built Chof is on the homepage, in his own words.

Makers can't pay to change a score or a ranking. Verified makers can appear more often where Chof features bars, such as the app's Featured section and the home page of this site, but never with a higher score or a higher place in a ranking.
