Use Chof at the festival
Scan the wrapper of a bar you taste, or search for it by name, and rate it before you walk on to the next stall. Every bar you rate stays in My Bars, so after the festival you still know which ones you liked.
How the crowd favourite is counted
Every rating given in Chof on a bar from a participating maker between the festival opening on Friday 4 December and the cutoff on Sunday 6 December, shortly before ICCF announces the result, counts. One rating per person per bar; if someone changes their mind, the latest rating counts.
The crowd favourite is the bar with the highest average rating. So that a bar rated by only one or two people cannot win, we set a minimum number of raters at the cutoff, from how many ratings came in and before looking at any averages, never below five, and we announce it with the result. Ties go to the bar with more raters, then to the higher share of "would buy again".
Chof's own tasting sessions use bars from makers who are not competing, so no bar gains from being on a session menu. We ask makers and their staff not to rate their own bars, and we check for stuffing, such as several accounts on one phone or a burst of new accounts rating one bar, before we hand over the result.
At the cutoff on Sunday Chof gives ICCF the winner and the two runners-up with their rater counts and averages; ICCF announces it; Chof publishes the same three numbers afterwards. Visitors' notes stay private and are never part of the count.
If no bar reaches the minimum, there is no crowd favourite this year.
