gebana began in 1973 as a movement for fairer world trade and was founded as the trading company gebana AG in 1998. It is based in Zurich and has subsidiaries in Brazil, Burkina Faso, Tunisia, Togo and Benin.
Its Togo bars, such as the Togo Herb 80% and Togo Mild 67%, are made entirely in Togo, by hand, by the gebana Togo team in its own small production. gebana notes that West African cocoa is usually made into chocolate in Europe.
gebana sells through its own online shop and says 10 percent of the shop price goes back to the farming families, on top of the organic and fair-trade price.
